Excellent article about a much underrated STAR in every sense of the word. This may seem odd to today’s cinema goers when looking at so called stars as Cruise and Pitt who are completely vacuous. Bogart encapsulated to essence of America in the 40′s and 50′s and transcended the art form. There is no surprise that, in 1999, the AFI pronounced him the greatest Hollywood star ever, and there has been no dissension from that. Certainly keep in the statement comparing him to Ali, Picasso and Dylan. If Karen, and others, are ignorant of their place in cultural history they should find out!

The book is a great idea,however,you need to make sure you capture,the american essence of the writings of dashiel hamett and how Bogie incorporated,the post depression american toughness,in his characters and made us beleive in them and gave us the expectation,that in the end,like “Casablanca”,everything works itself out just like rick and captain Reneau.

I would cherish a fresh, well written new book. Heaven knows he deserves it.

I would love to see a Bogart Book with the cooperation of the Bogart Estate. Every detail would have to be discovered uncovered and recorded. For example, production dates, box office receipts, behind the scenes photos, etc etc. I would be interested and hope this project sees the light of day.
